Our Staff
Matthew Duncalf - Club Professional
Matt has been a fully qualified PGA professional for over 10 working at some of the most prestigious courses in the UK. Having joined Hillside Golf Club as Assistant Professional in 2018, he was appointed as the Club Professional in November 2020. He has built up vast experience in both coaching and custom fitting, delivering structured sessions to golfers of all abilities from complete beginners to elite level players, with the use of TrackMan 4 and Gasp Lab swing analysis software.
Gareth Benson - Lead Coach
Gareth Benson, a PGA professional for 30 years and head of coaching at Hillside GC. A lead Lancashire County Coach and coach to international players, Gareth has a proven track record in young player development and is consistently ranked within the Top 50 instructors by leading golf magazine todays golfer. Armed with the very best in coaching technology and facilities, it is my belief that we can take your game to the next level and beyond.
Matthew Harrison - Senior Assistant Professional
Matthew joined the team at Hillside in April 2021 having previously been head assistant at Formby Golf Club, a club which he worked at for over 10 years. Matthew qualified from the PGAs foundation degree programme in 2015 and has since earned a reputation as an expert in junior golf development and is known as a warm and friendly member of the professional staff. He excels in customer service and is an accomplished player having won The PGA North Assistants Challenge during his training period in 2013.
Lewis Pownell - Assistant Professional
Assistant professional Lewis Pownell has joined the team from Fairfield golf club in Manchester where in 2020 he turned professional off plus 2 making it to the final stage of Europro qualifying school. Lewis is currently completing his PGA qualification at the university of Birmingham and has completed his level 1 coaching course having a keen interest in getting involved with junior coaching. From a young age Lewis also competed for Lancashire boys all the way through to the senior ranks.
